Saudi Arabia Intercepts and Neutralizes Eight Drones

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia’s Defense Ministry announced that its air defenses shot down several unmanned aerial vehicles beginning early Saturday, according to statements shared on social media.

Officials said at least eight drones had been intercepted and destroyed, with several of them detected over the country’s eastern region.

Separately, according to reports, five refueling aircraft belonging to the United States Air Force were struck while stationed at Prince Sultan Air Base. Two US officials said the aircraft sustained damage while on the ground but were not destroyed, and repair work is underway. No casualties were reported.

Sources indicated that the damage occurred during a missile strike carried out by Iran against the base in recent days.

Tensions across the region have risen sharply since the United States and Israel carried out coordinated military strikes on Iran on Feb. 28. The attacks have resulted in at least 1,300 deaths in Iran, including the country’s then-supreme leader, Ali Khamenei.

In response, Tehran has launched waves of drone and missile attacks directed at Israel as well as neighboring countries including Jordan, Iraq and several Gulf states that host US military facilities.

These strikes have led to casualties, damage to infrastructure, and disruptions affecting global financial markets and air travel.
